About Me

Andrew Smyth

Profile

Racing has always been in my blood, seeing as dad was a short circuit racing championship contender in Northern Ireland and has also worked with many famous teams on the spanners including J.A.R. Honda (Jonathan Rea’s MX Team). I am currently 17 years old working as an apprentice Mechanical Engineer in Dunbia/Dawn Meats. I am very keen at keeping myself fit, in my spare time (when not racing!) I enjoy attending my PT twice a week along with mountain biking when I’m free. For the future my goal is to ultimately win the British Superbike Championship.

Experience

With only starting to compete in short circuit racing in 2016, on a 125 Aprilia finishing 6th in the Ulster Championship and 4th in the Irish Championship in my first season, I then became the Irish Junior Cup Champion in 2017, finishing runner up in the Ulster Championship in the same year. Starting the 2018 season with brilliant confidence, I was ready to compete in the Junior Cup Championship again, however with bad luck in the first round, I had a nasty crash, which I broke my pelvis and unfortunately with my injury I had to sit it out for the rest of the 2018 season. 2019 I hit the ground running, new season and new bike! So I thought maybe I should take the jump and get my BSB career started, so that’s exactly what I did, whilst 2019 was a year to build my confidence back up it was also a big learning year!

This year I knew I had prepared not only my bike but also my body to the highest standard for a complete season in Junior Supersport in BSB. With starting later this year due to Covid-19 I was never as glad to get the season well underway. The beginning of the season didn’t go as planned with a few nasty crashes left me with a big hole in my pocket, however I wasn’t ready to give up that quickly! Finally my luck had changed during the penultimate round, qualifying 10th place at Oulton I knew I was where I wanted to be. We came home from Oulton with a 3rd place and a 5th, it was the best weekend of my career! Next year I will be competing in the Stock 600 Championship and I cannot wait for the challenge ahead!
